Lotus Reflections in Colored Threads, Artistic Craft Conveying Cultural Affection
— The Cloisonné Enamel Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Workshop at Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology Malaysia Shen Jai Confucius Institute Concludes Successfully

From 31 January to 1 February 2026, the “Lotus Reflections in Colored Threads · Cloisonné Enamel” Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Workshop, carefully planned by the Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology Malaysia Shen Jai Confucius Institute, was successfully held. The two-day workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from learners of various ethnic backgrounds, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the public in Malaysia. Participants gathered together to experience, through hands-on creation, the unique charm of China’s traditional intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship.
Centered on the lotus flower, a symbol of purity, harmony, and auspiciousness, the workshop broke away from the conventional one-way dissemination model of intangible cultural heritage. Instead, it adopted an innovative dual-track approach combining immersive experience and hands-on practice, allowing participants to engage closely with the essence of the craft. Under the guidance of professional instructors, participants were introduced to the fundamental techniques of metal wire bending and setting, followed by detailed demonstrations of key processes such as color application and glazing. Holding delicate metal wires and vibrant enamel powders, participants began by outlining the lotus motif and proceeded step by step through wire setting, color mixing and filling, drying, and polishing, completing the entire production process.
Throughout the process of intertwining metal wires and layering enamel colors, participants from different cultural backgrounds engaged in lively exchanges on craftsmanship techniques. Some shared their insights on color coordination, while others sought advice on controlling the curvature of the metal wires. Cultural interaction and mutual learning quietly unfolded through these intricately crafted enamel pieces. The hands-on experience transformed a craft often confined to museum displays into something tangible and accessible. Many participants remarked that this “touchable and take-home” experience made abstract concepts of Chinese culture more concrete and relatable, offering them a more intuitive understanding of traditional Chinese aesthetics.
As an important initiative in exploring innovative approaches to cultural dissemination, this cloisonné enamel workshop successfully transformed intangible cultural heritage from static display into dynamic engagement. The event not only deepened public understanding and appreciation of China’s outstanding traditional culture among the Malaysian community, but also used intangible cultural heritage as a bridge to build a vivid platform for cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Malaysia. Moving forward, the Shen Jai Confucius Institute will continue to explore high-quality intangible cultural heritage resources and introduce diverse cultural experience activities, further promoting in-depth and meaningful cultural exchanges between the two countries.
莲映丝彩 艺韵传情 —— 西安电子科技大学马来西亚深斋孔子学院掐丝珐琅非遗体验工作坊圆满落幕 （大马深斋孔院讯）2026年 1 月 31 日至 2 月 1 日，由西安电子科技大学马来西亚深斋孔子学院精心策划的 “莲映丝彩・掐丝珐琅”非遗体验工作坊顺利举办。为期两天的活动吸引了马来西亚不同族群的学员、文化爱好者及社会人士踊跃参与，大家齐聚一堂，在指尖流转间领略中国传统非遗工艺的独特魅力。 本次工作坊选用象征高洁、和谐与吉祥的 “荷花” 为核心创作主题，打破了传统非遗文化单向讲授的传播模式，创新采用 “沉浸式体验 + 手作实践” 的双轨形式，让参与者零距离触摸非遗技艺的精髓。活动现场，专业指导教师从掐丝、粘丝的基础手法讲起，细致演示了点蓝、封釉等关键步骤的操作技巧。学员们手持金丝与彩砂，从勾勒荷花轮廓开始，一步步完成掐丝定型、调色填釉、晾干打磨等全流程工序。 在金丝缠绕与彩砂铺陈的过程中，不同族群的学员们围绕工艺技巧热烈交流。有人分享自己对色彩搭配的理解，有人请教掐丝弧度的把控诀窍，文化的交融在方寸之间的珐琅作品上悄然发生。亲手制作的过程让原本存在于博物馆展柜里的非遗技艺变得触手可及，不少学员表示，这种 “可触摸、可带走” 的体验形式，让抽象的中华文化变得具象、亲切，也让他们对中国传统美学有了更直观的认知。 作为深斋孔子学院创新文化传播形式的重要尝试，本次掐丝珐琅非遗体验工作坊成功将非遗技艺从 “静态展示” 转化为 “动态感知”。活动不仅增进了马来西亚民众对中华优秀传统文化的了解与喜爱，更以非遗工艺为纽带，为中马两国文明互鉴搭建起一座生动的交流平台。未来，深斋孔子学院将继续挖掘更多优质非遗文化资源，推出形式多样的文化体验活动，推动中马文化交流走深走实。
